Man's Body Found Off Pier in West Haven

West Haven Police are investigating a mysterious death after authorities found a man’s body in the water off the Oak Street Pier on Friday morning.

For hours into the afternoon, police roped off with crime tape a section of the beach.

Police said the man has been identified as Michael Farmer, 50, of New Haven, police said.

It is unknown how long Farmer was in the water before someone notified authorities.

West Haven firefighters recovered the man’s body from the water and brought him to shore just before 10 a.m.

“That’s what we’re trying to determine, if he either fell in the water or if there’s any foul play,” Sgt. David Tammaro said.

Investigators could be seen snapping photos of a bicycle at the end of the pier before walking it to shore.

“I was just running over here, you know, stopped, saw the police tape,” said Dennis Shea of West Haven.

A regular runner by the beach, Shea said he is concerned about this disturbing discovery.

“This is just a very horrific thing that I honestly, I don’t understand why things like this are happening around here lately,” Shea said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the manner and cause of death.

West Haven Police are asking anyone with information to give them a call at (203) 937-3900.
