Feds: City Inspection of Costa Work “Unacceptable”

Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez was arrested, accused of bribery, and the problems seem to be growing.

Federal transportation authorities are saying the city messed up. That there weren't nearly enough inspections of a multimillion-dollar construction project done by a city contractor charged in a bribery case involving Perez.

And Costa did not meet requirements to hire certain "disadvantaged" business for the, an oversight the cost the city nearly $770,000, federal officials said.

The comments by Federal Highway Administration officials are in letters obtained by The Hartford Courant.

Costa's lawyer and city officials dispute the claims and say they are working to resolve the matter.

Costa and Perez have been arrested in a federal bribery investigation related to renovations to the mayor's home performed by Costa.
