Importer: Virgin Purity None of Your Business

When you have tomato and mozzarella salad, you want to know the olive oil drizzled on top is pure. Connecticut does too, but a New York oil importer wants the state to stick to Nutmeg and keeps its hands off olive oil.

Connecticut added regulations on the books to make sure nothing is lurking in your olive oil, because nasty nut oils that can cause allergies could get mixed in, making a mutt of an olive oil rather than a purebred.

Kangadis Foods says the state’s Department of Consumer Protection took a giant leap beyond its rights to protect consumers because olive oil laws go back to the 1940s, according to an article CTNewjunkie’s Christine Stuart wrote that appears on Courthouse News Service.
