Police: New Haven Man Shot at Maryland Cop

A New Haven man was arrested, accused of shooting at an off-duty police officer there early Thursday morning.

At 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, an off-duty officer, in his own car, began following a speeding vehicle on highway 495, according to Maryland State Police. As the officer was following the car, police say someone stuck a gun out of a window and started firing. The officer wasn't hit, but the car sped away. 

The officer did get the license plate and the driver was identified as James Hill, 33, from New Haven and Maryland troopers alerted New Haven Police. 

Hill's vehicle was spotted near Ella T. Grasso Boulevard and Chapel Street.  He was taken into custoday and charged as a fugitive from justice. 

He's being held on $1 million bond.  Hill is also facing a warrant from Maryland on attempted second-degree murder, assault, and reckless endangerment charges.
