NBC Universal, Inc.

A teenager is dead and another person is injured after a double shooting on Broad Street in Hartford, police said.

Officials said the shooting happened in the area of 640 Broad St. just after 3:30 p.m. Police responded to the area on a ShotSpotter activation.

“Upon arrival, they did locate a crime scene to include shell casings in the roadway. While they were on scene investigating, an area hospital let us know that two victims arrived, transported privately for gunshot wounds," Lt. Aaron Boisvert said.

One of the people shot has since been pronounced dead. The man has been identified as 18-year-old Ernesto Morales, of Manchester.

The other person shot has non-life threatening injuries and is in stable condition. Police said they believe he's in his 20s.

“We know that there's good camera coverage here. So hopefully we'll we'll have captured it. I know there's some private video here as well," Boisvert said.

The shooting appears to be targeted, according to authorities.

“I was just standing in my apartment and all of a sudden I heard some gunshots and didn’t know what was up, minding my own business and now I see all of this," Rob Berry of Hartford said.

Berry said he heard what he thought was several gunshots.

“I looked around and didn’t really see anything. I just continued minding my own business, reading my book," Berry said. “It’s kind of nerve wracking. I live next door.”

This is the city's 28th homicide of the year. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 860-722-8477.
