2 Arrested After Unknown Chemicals Led to Emergency Response in Higganum

The DEA, bomb squad, state police and DEEP all responded

Two people face narcotics charges after several emergency crews responded to a report of unknown chemicals located at a residence in Higganum Monday.

State police, the state police bomb squad, Drug Enforcement Agency and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's Emergency Response Unit were on the scene at 34 Ponsett Road in Higganum after unknown chemicals were located. DEEP determined that the chemicals were not hazardous.

State police said Wednesday that two residents of the home, identified as Jesse Vernil, 32, and Megan Vincelett, 31, were arrested following the incident. Both were charged with possession of a controlled substance and they are due in court on August 3.

State police said the Statewide Narcotics Task Force was investigating.

The Department of Children and Familes also responded for two children located in the home, according to police.
