Grief counselors were on hand Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington Wednesday night after word got around that a 16-year-old student was killed in an automobile accident on Route 8 North.
Jerry Dale Cox III of Winsted was traveling just south of the Pinewoods Road overpass just after 12 p.m. when the 2000 GMC pickup truck he was driving lost control and swerved left then right before hitting a concrete bridge abutment according to witnesses.
State Police and DEP personnel performed CPR on Cox at the scene before he was transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Route 8 was closed for almost four hours while the scene was being cleared as police investigated the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
