On Sunday, crews were putting the finishing touches on spots before the start of the tournament.

“I’d say excited, kind of feel the adrenaline. You know what’s going to happen tomorrow,” Tournament Director Nathan Grube said.

It has been months of work to get everything ready at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell.

“I think Connecticut is very proud of this event and so when it kicks off you see it in the crowd’s faces. They walk up. You see it in the volunteers faces, everybody is just excited it’s here,” Grube said.

While there are plenty of activities all day to keep people busy, the real reason people love watching the tournament is the 156 players who will compete during four rounds from Thursday to Sunday.

And you can bet fans will be rushing to see some big names who are returning.

“This year with Mickelson coming back - he hasn’t been back in about 15 years. Bubba, being the three-time champion, can tie the all-time record if he wins. Jordan Spieth coming back. I mean there is a lot for fans to see,” Grube said.

Grube says they’ve already seen a bump in ticket sales this year.

Despite all the hard work, one thing is out of their control – the weather.

Organizers are watching the forecast closely for this week-long tradition and are thankful spectators are okay adjusting.

“It’s one of those things. You run an outdoor event. Until we build a large, red umbrella over the entire golf course, you know, weather will always be a part of it,” Grube said.
