Trial to Resume For Man Charged in Dad Death, Cop Shooting

A trial is set to continue for a Connecticut man who police say killed his father and lived with the corpse for five months before shooting a police officer who entered his home for a welfare check.

Prosecution witnesses are scheduled to continue testifying Tuesday in the trial of 39-year-old Andrew Samuolis in Putnam Superior Court. Samuolis, of Willimantic, is pursuing an insanity defense before a three-judge panel.

The trial began Oct. 16 and was adjourned for the past two weeks.

Willimantic police say Samuolis opened fire on officers when they entered his home in June 2013. One officer was shot but survived. Samuolis was captured during a neighborhood manhunt and his father's corpse was later found in their home.

Samuolis pleaded not guilty to murder and assault charges.
