The woman was strangled.

Norwalk police have charged a 44-year-old Norwalk man with the murder of a 62-year-old woman.

Bertony Thompson, 44, has been charged with the murder of Jackie Silverman, who was found unresponsive in a bedroom at 41 Wolfpit Avenue in Norwalk around 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday.

Police said Silverman had been strangled.

Police responded to the home after receiving a report that a male resident had made suicidal comments, according to police.

They forced their way into the home and Silverman was pronounced dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy Sept. 11 and determined the victim's cause of death to be homicide by asphyxiation, according to Norwalk police.

The man was rushed to Norwalk Hospital for treatment.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Thompson on Friday morning and took him into custody. He was charged with murder and is due in court on Monday.

Police called the situation an isolated incident.
