Paris Cop Fatally Shot as France Mourns Terror Victims

Counter-terrorism police were investigating the fatal shooting Thursday of a female police officer in a Paris suburb, though there was no firm link to Wednesday's terror attack on the offices of a satirical magazine that killed 12 people, NBC News reported. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said two officers were shot while at Porte Chatillon the southwestern suburb of Montrouge at about 8 a.m. local time (2 a.m. ET), and the suspect was "still at large." The investigation had been assigned to a counter-terrorist unit "given the current context" and because the heavily-armed perpetrator appeared to have "deliberately targeted security forces," authorities said. The violence came as France began a day of mourning with a nationwide moment of silence at noon local time (6 a.m. ET).
