You may have noticed the startling number of waify pretty young things on the sidewalks and subways this week. With tomorrow's kick-off of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (some designers, including Rachel Comey, will begin showing off-site this afternoon), editors, models, buyers and photographers are already out in droves for the fall 2013 shows.
The tents have always been exclusive, accessible only to a small number of insider invitees. This season, however, New York Fashion Week seems to be taking a more inclusive approach: on Monday, IMG announced its partnership with video platform Righster, which will allow the company to livestream almost 90 shows, including Rebecca Minkoff, Michael Kors, Vera Wang and Diane von Furstenberg.
As for the show schedule, this season's line up has a few notable holes, including New York designer Peter Som, who—in lieu of a runway show—will present his fall 2013 collection digitally at 9am on digitalfashionshows.com. For the designer, the digital realm provides "an opportunity to try out a new platform that can reach a lot of people," Som told WWD. "The show will tap right into the digital and online presence of my brand and it will allow me to try something new creatively.”

Intriguingly, after her much-buzzed-about (and highly exclusive) spring 2013 presentation, Katie Holmes has declined to show her fall 2013 collection for Holmes & Yang, which she co-designs with longtime stylist, Jeanne Yang.
And after rumors that Betsey Johnson had also canceled, the eccentric designer's PR confirmed to NY magazine the brand would stage a catwalk show after all, explaining that "you can always expect the unexpected from Betsey Johnson"
Near cancellations and no-shows aside, the real Fashion Week buzz is what's generated by those who are showing: after a major cash investment from John Howard, the Proenza Schouler boys are said to be taking their small, independent label to the next level. And given that his ballgowns have made it onto Michelle Obama for not one, but two Inaugural Balls, we're curious to see whether Jason Wu makes eveningwear a real emphasis for fall 2013.
Of course, it wouldn't feel like Fashion Week without a smattering of splashy after parties, and this season is no exception. Kate Spade's 26th anniversary bash on February 8th is perhaps the most sought-after invite, with Target's glamorous fete for Prabal Gurung's GO International collection—which takes place Wednesday Feb. 6—a close second.
Today, California label Wildfox—best known for its snarky t-shirts and graphic knits—will blur the line between party and presentation with a show at the lavish Capitale event space. Given that the brand's spring '13 lookbook was an homage to "Clueless," fans are keen to see whether or not a '90s theme will factor into the fete.
Speaking of teen queens, pint-sized pop star Miley Cyrus will perform at Cosmopolitan's latest cover party, co-hosted by perpetually cool Swedish brand, Acne, on February 13, while fellow It-kids Hannah Bronfman and Nick Cohen will DJ Rebecca Minkoff's buzzy soiree at the Grammercy Terrace on Friday.
