Death Toll in China Earthquake Rises to 589

Authorities say the death toll in southern China's earthquake has risen to 589 as search and rescue teams are working to clear isolated mountain communities in Yunnan province, The Associated Press reported. The provincial government says more than 2,400 people were injured in Sunday's 6.1 magnitude quake in the rural Yunnan county of Ludian. An elderly woman was rescued late Tuesday after being buried in the rubble for 50 hours.
