ESPN to Create Sports School – Only in NYC

First there was the ‘School of Rock,’ now there will be the school of sports. A Connecticut company is working with New York City schools to open one in the city.

The school, a venture between Bristol, Conn.-based ESPN and the New York City Department of Education, would create a new high school focusing on the business side of sports.

The Business of Sports School, or BOSS, will open in September with 81 ninth grade students.

Students will be doing more than talking about games, plays, MVPs and trades. There will be work, and mandatory internships at companies like ESPN The Magazine, ABC Sports, and VitaminWater.

The school is part of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's push to modernize outdated vocational or trade schools.
