Syracuse Player Has Run-in With Geno Auriemma, Big East Takes No Action

The above video appears to show UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma and Syracuse forward Nicole Michael exchanging words as they go through the post-game handshake line, followed by Michael trying to trip Auriemma when they cross paths again, and Auriemma being restrained by his players from going after Michael. A bizarre incident, to say the least.

But Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese has reviewed the incident and said he's not going to take any action. He released this statement:

"Having been assured by both Connecticut athletic director Jeff Hathaway and Syracuse athletic director Daryl Gross that there will be no recurrence of the events following the Connecticut and Syracuse game - and that both are committed to our principles of sportsmanship - the Big East has determined that there is no need for any formal conference action. Daryl and Jeff have also assured me that Geno and Nicole are prepared to move forward and to conclude the season without further incidents."

The whole thing is rather silly -- Auriemma should know better than to exchange words with an opposing player, and Michael should know better than to trip an opposing coach. But not every silly incident needs to become a disciplinary issue, so Tranghese was wise not to make this a bigger deal than it already was.
