Thabeet Twarts Buffalo's Bid to Upset UConn

UConn center Hasheem Thabeet scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in the Huskies' 68-64 win over Buffalo.

The Buffalo Bulls had No. 2 UConn on the ropes. They jumped out to an eight point lead in the first half but a 9-0 UConn run swept that all away. Still, the Bulls played the Huskies toe-to-toe for the remainder of the game. Buffalo would have the ball, down 66-64, with :37 remaining. Rodney Pierce, who scored 28 points for the Bulls, drove the lane and turned the ball over. UConn hit a couple free throws to ice the game.

UConn is widely considered as the biggest threat to No. 1 North Carolina. Games like this are judged a bit harder when they come after UNC demolished Michigan State, Duke pummeled Purdue and Gonzaga and Pitt blowing by everyone.

Two years ago, Buffalo lost by three points to No. 2 Pittsburgh. That was also the last time the Bulls played a ranked opponent.
