Lubin Signs Letter of Intent

It's official, Rakim Lubin is coming to UConn. The 6-8 forward signed his letter of intent Sunday afternoon and will join transfer Rodney Purvis, Daniel Hamilton, and Sam Cassell Jr. in the Huskies' incoming recruiting class.

Lubin helped lead Buford (Ga.) High School to the state championship game where he scored 12 points and 12 rebounds in a loss to Morgan County. Lubin scored 37 points and pulled 21 rebounds with five blocks in the semifinals.

And now, he brings his imposing presence to Storrs, where he'll get an opportunity to replace DeAndre Daniels, who is headed to the NBA.

He’s a man -- he could be playing on Sundays,” Lubin's high school coach Allen Whitehart told the Connecticut News' William Paxton of the 250-pounder. “He’s a big physical kid. A physical athlete.”

Here's Whitehart's scouting report on Lubin from last fall, via TheDay.com:

“He’s pretty agile. He runs well. He’s a good athlete. He defends well in open space. He’s so strong. He’s physically college ready now.

"…Strangely enough, he’s got a pretty good face-up game. If you get him on the block, you’re going to foul him or he’s going to score. He finishes extremely well.”

Whitehart also called UConn "a great fit" for Lubin, adding: "I think he can do very well there."
