Central Connecticut State University, a public university in New Britain, Connecticut, issued a campus emergency alert this afternoon after a potentially armed man was seen entering one of the halls at CCSU, according to police sources.

Because of the situation, two New Britain schools were on lockdown, according to Supt. Kelt Cooper.

Holmes Elementary, at 2150 Stanley St., was on external lockdown out of an abundance of caution, Cooper said. Children were not going outside but could move around freely inside the building.

House of Arts Letters and Sciences Academy, or HALS, located at 30 Pendleton Road, is very close to campus and was on full lockdown during the incident.

Three people were taken into custody at CCSU and the lockdown was lifted around 3 p.m.

New Britain Mayor Tim O'Brien said there are no injuries to report.
