Interstate 95 was shut down in both directions in Milford for hours Thursday due to a gas leak fire.
According to State Police, the fire broke out under the High Street overpass between Exits 36 and 37.
An energized wire broke from a pole and started a brush fire that hit a gas line under the bridge, according to the fire department.
Interstate 95 South was closed at exit 39. I-95 North was closed at exit 36. High Street was closed between Boston Post Road and Zion Hill Road.
Firefighters poured water on the bridge to avoid it from becoming compromised, fire officials said.
Gov. Dannel Malloy said during a news conference with Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano that it is not clear if it is connected to storm damage in the area from Sandy.
The highway reopened around 3 p.m.
