Fire and Explosion in Middletown

Fire broke out on Cooley Avenue in Middletown.

A propane tank that was left on the back porch of a Middletown home exploded on Friday morning and fueled a fire, according to fire officials.

Five people were home at 21 Cooley Ave. when the explosion and fire happened around 4 a.m. and they all got out OK.

Officials said two people were on first floor and three were on the third floor when the fire started.

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire, which damaged the back of the house

Main Street Extension was closed, but has since reopened.
