Irene is planning to make an appearance in Connecticut just as college students are supposed report back to school, and that is causing some local schools to alter move-in plans.
UConn will start on time, but asks that students not move in on Sunday. Connecticut College, however, is delaying the start of school.
At the University of Connecticut, freshmen will move in as scheduled on Friday, Aug. 26 until 4 p.m. and convocation will take place as scheduled, beginning at 5 p.m.
Upperclassmen can move in as scheduled on Saturday, but expect heavy traffic.
The university will try to accommodate any student who absolutely must move in on Sunday, but asks that you avoid moving in on Sunday if at all possible. Parents dropping off students should avoid traveling to UConn on Sunday because roads may be hazardous.
As of right now, classes at the Storrs and regional campuses and the UConn Health Center remain scheduled for Monday.
UConn will issue alerts through the University’s Emergency Alert System, which may include e-mail, text message, web-postings on alert.uconn.edu, today.uconn.edu, UConn Today’s Facebook page, and public address announcements over the campus-wide siren system.

Connecticut College, however, is moving new student arrival day from Saturday, Aug. 27 to Thursday, Sept. 1.
Returning students, previously scheduled to arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday, Aug. 30 or 31, will be delayed to Saturday or Sunday, Sept. 3 or 4. The college will have limited staffing and some limited programming for students who are unable to change their plans. The first day of classes, originally scheduled for Sept. 1, is now scheduled for Monday, Sept. 5. The College’s Centennial Convocation is now scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6.
