Police Identify Pedestrian Killed By Car in Middletown

A female pedestrian had died after a car hit her while she was walking in Middletown past midnight on Saturday.

Police identified the woman killed as Jean Carroll, 52, of Middletown.

Leonard Sanders, 52, of Middletown was driving westbound in a 2009 Chevrolet Impala on Washington Street toward Broad Street when he struck Carroll at the intersection at about 12:56 a.m. on Sept. 27. 

Carroll was transported to the Hartford Hospital to be treated for  life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead in the hospital.

Police have notified her family.

Police did not release information on the cause of the crash. The department is awaiting lab results before making determinations about whether there will be any charges, police said. No arrests have been made at this time.

Middletown police were still on scene reconstructing the crash just before 8 a.m. on Saturday.
