Son Accused of Killing 91-Year-Old Father Heads to Court

Jan Gawlik, 46, is being held on a $1.5 million bond.

The New Britain man accused of killing his 91-year-old father and attacking his mother will be in court on Wednesday.

Jan Gawlik, 46, is being held on a $1.5 million bond, accused of stabbing his father to death inside their New Britain home.

Police responded to an assault complaint at 127 Booth St. and found Jozef Gawlik, 91, dead in his home.

State Police charged Jan Gawlik with his murder.  They took over the homicide investigation because the victim is related to a member of the New Britain police department, state police said.

Jan Gawlik has pleaded not guilty.

Neighbors described his behavior before the incident as erratic and friends of the suspect said drugs and being without a psychiatrist led to the violent confrontation.
