Westport police are warning that there is a risk of flooding on Canal Road this afternoon as high tide moves in.
Police said high tide will be around 3:30 p.m. and could cause flooding on Canal Road. A bridge on Harbor Road is currently being replaced, which means the only way to access the Saugatuck Shores section of town is via Canal Road. Residents and visitors are asked to plan their travel to and from the island accordingly and to avoid driving Canal Road if water is covering the road.
Flood waters can be dangerous. Anyone whose vehicle gets caught up in flood waters should immediately call 911.
Police said their department as well as the fire department have vehicles equipped to travel flooded roadways in the event of an emergency.
