It may not reach the iconic status that the old Hartford Whalers logo has, but the Whalers Sports and Entertainment group unveiled the brand new Connecticut Whale logo Wednesday.

The logo was on display just prior to the Hartford Wolf Pack's exhibition game against the Albany Devils.

The Wolf Pack will be renamed the Connecticut Whale at some point during the 2010-2011 season.

"We wanted to not only incorporate our traditional Whaler green, but focus on the whale, the official animal of the state of Connecticut," according to Howard Baldwin, chairman of the Whale franchise.

The team will also keep "Pucky the Whale" as the official "live" team mascot.
