Food service ratings are not the kind of restaurant rating food lovers are usually interested in -- but they're at least as important.

Today the East Shore Health District posted the ratings its inspectors have given restaurants, bakeries, convenience stores, and even ice cream trucks, in its four towns: East Haven, Branford, North Branford, and Northford.

"We have to be clean, all the time, not just for inspection, every day, that's what we're trying to do," said Pedro Gutierrez, owner of Guti'z Bakery in East Haven.

The health district gave his bakery several serious demerits after an inspection March 18 and he's taken the matter seriously.

Potential customers can check all the ratings at http://www.esdhd.org.  The director of health was not available for comment today but townspeople were.

"I think it's a good idea," said Maria Plaza of Branford. "I hear bad stories about some restaurants, not in the area but New York, places like that, so I think it's a very good idea."

Emily Corrado doesn't use the internet, but she says she thinks posting the ratings is so positive, she might go on line.
