A gas main break forced the evacuation of Eli Whitney Technical High School on Jones Road in Hamden on Thursday, according to police.
A construction crew hit a three-inch gas main that feeds the school, according to Hamden fire officials.
The incident happened around 2 p.m., about 15 minutes before normal dismissal time. Students were taken out of the school and put on the buses early, fire officials said.
No one was injured.
