Court Docs: Cop Gambled Away Children's Money

A former Manchester police officer s accused of stealing money from children's funds

A former Manchester police sergeant took a big gamble with money that would have gone to children's programs and lost, according to court documents obtained by a Connecticut newspaper.  

Michelle Wagner is accused of stealing money from Police Explorers Fund and a Child Safety Seat Account, two children's programs she was running through the police department. The 34-year-old former police sergeant then blowing $19,000 away at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, according to court documents obtained by a Connecticut newspaper.

Wagner was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 12 and was facing a disciplinary hearing where she might have faced possible termination. 

She resigned from the Manchester Police Department on Nov. 13, just prior to the hearing. She was formally charged with larceny Wednesday.

The thefts were discovered during an audit of financial records during a change in supervision of the programs.
