Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian in history, is coming to Connecticut in March.

He will be speaking at Southern Connecticut State University, when he will be the featured speaker at the Mary and Louis Fusco Distinguished Lecture in the Lyman Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m. on March 2.

Phelps retired from competition after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio and has been promoting the importance of not just physical fitness but mental health.

His discussion at SCSU will cover his successful swimming career as well as the challenges he’s faced with depression.

In 2018, Phelps announced a partnership with Talkspace, which provides online therapy for people who are going through tough times. He said helping people overcome the dark chapters in their lives is "way bigger than ever winning gold medals."

Earlier this month, he was honored for his work and became the recipient of the Boston-based Ruderman Family Foundation’s fifth annual Morton E. Ruderman Award in Inclusion.

Phelps has also established the Michael Phelps Foundation, which encourages children to live healthy, active lives, and to continue to grow the sport of swimming.

He has also has written three books, “Beneath the Surface: My Story,” “No Limits: The Will to Succeed,” and a children’s book, “How to Train with a T.Rex and Win 8 Gold Medals.”

Tickets for premium seating are on sale for $35 and regular seating is $30.

You can purchase tickets at www.lymancenter.org.
