Waterford Honors Fallen Soldier

The Town of Waterford came out Thursday to honor a fallen son.

Hundreds lined streets in Waterford as the body of Staff Sgt. Edwin Rivera was returned home.

"Just to show support of what they do for us. We have what we have today because of them," Waterford resident Angela Reid said.

Rivera, 28, died May 25 from wounds he suffered while fighting in Afghanistan.

The hearse carrying Rivera's casket was taken to Waterford High School, where students paid respects to the father and husband. They also observed a moment of silence for the Army National Guardsman.

Calling hours for Rivera were scheduled for Friday from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Camp Rell in Niantic. His funeral will be held there Saturday and he will be buried at Jordan Cemetery.
