Honoring Connecticut’s 9/11 Victims

On Tuesday evening, Connecticut will honor the 152 people with Connecticut ties who were killed in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 at a special event in Westport.

Each year, the state holds a ceremony at Sherwood Island State Park, the site of Connecticut's official 9/11 living memorial. http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?A=2716&Q=383810

The ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. and Gov. M. Jodi Rell will be among those attending the service. This ceremony comes four days before the ninth anniversary of the attacks.

The names of the victims are engraved on granite tiles at the memorial site, which is along Long Island Sound and includes a view of the Manhattan skyline.

Many towns in the state are holding their own ceremonies later in the week.

The Connecticut Society of Genealogists’ has a list of the names of the victims how they appear on the memorial.
