A State Police bomb squad responded to an Orange volunteer fire station after a citizen brought a grenade at an estate sale there.
An Orange volunteer firefighter purchased a grenade for $1 at a Woodbridge home earlier in the day and brought it there to show people, according to the Woodbridge Fire Department. Firefighters at the Orange station weren't sure whether the grenade might still be live, so a bomb squad was called to the department, Woodbridge fire officials said.
The State Police bomb squad picked up the grenade from the fire station and destroyed it because it wasn't clear whether it was live, State Police said just after 4 p.m. on Sunday. The address where the bomb squad responded is not clear at this time.
There are two stations as part of the Orange Volunteer Fire Department, including one on Boston Post Road and another on Orange Center Road, according to the town of Orange website.
Just before noon in Woodbridge firefighters responded to the Deer Run Road where the individual bought the grenade and checked the home for further explosives, but found none.
State Police have not released the name of the firefighter who brought the grenade.
More information will be provided when it becomes available.
