I-84 in West Hartford, Farmington Reopen After Crashes

Interstate 84 west and east in West Hartford and Farmington have reopened following multiple serious crashes on Friday night.

State police said I-84 westbound was closed after rollover crash involving five vehicles. According to police, the accident happened when a GMC Envoy traveling eastbound crossed the center median, became airborne and struck a car traveling the opposite direction. This set off a chain-reaction crash.

One person in the Envoy suffered serious injuries after being ejected from the vehicle, and a second person in that car was also seriously hurt and had to be extricated. The occupants of the other four vehicles suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Anyone who witnessed that crash is asked to contact the Troop H barracks in Hartford at 860-534-1000.

A second multi-vehicle crash shut down I-84 eastbound between exits 39 and 39A in Farmington.

The highway was shut down for hours Friday night because of the two crashes, but has since reopened.

No other details were immediately available.
