Man Killed in East Haven Fire Identified

A 47-year-old man was killed in the fire.

The man killed in a early morning fire in East Haven last Friday has been identified.

Frederick Chappell Jr. , 47, was killed in a fire at 78 Hemingway Ave. just before 6 a.m. last week.

Firefighters found him dead in a second-floor corridor, according to police. 

Police identified Chappell through fingerprints and notified his family.

Police said there were four apartments in the house.  Two people were home at the time of the fire, one was able to escape.

According to investigators, the fire began near the back of the home on the ground floor.  It does not appear suspicious, investigators said.

The State Fire Marshal was called to help in the investigation.
