1 Dead, 1 Seriously Injured After Vehicle Hits Bus Stop in Hamden

One man has died and another man has serious injuries after a vehicle hit the bus stop enclosure they were sitting at in Hamden on Wednesday morning.

Police responded to Dixwell Avenue and Woodin Street around 5 a.m. after getting a report of a crash with injuries.

Investigators said 31-year-old Pinky McBurrows, of Ansonia, was driving a vehicle north on Dixwell Avenue when she crossed the southbound lanes and hit a bus stop enclosure.

The two men who were in the bus stop enclosure suffered serious injuries, authorities said.

The men, who are Hamden residents in their 50s, were both transported to Yale New Haven Hospital, according to police.

Police said one of the men who was injured in the accident was later pronounced dead. He has been identified as 57-year-old Maurice Messier.

Immediately after the crash, McBurrows ran from her vehicle and was quickly apprehended by police and was transported to police headquarters, police said.

McBurrows is facing charges including reckless driving, evading responsibility, operating without a license and failure to drive in the proper lane. Police said she could face additional charges.
