A 31-year-old man is dead after a shooting in Sprague Thursday night and detectives from major crimes are investigating.
State police identified the victim as Steven Devost and a family member said he was a father of three young children and was shot when he went outside to investigate after hearing a loud bang.
State troopers found Devost when they responded to the home on Bay Street at 11:55 p.m. Thursday and said he’d been shot.
An ambulance transported Devost to Backus Hospital and he was later pronounced dead, according to state police.
Detectives from Eastern District Major Crime have taken over the investigation.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will investigate to determine exact cause and manner of death.
Police said the shooting remains under investigation, but there is no threat to the public.
