Report: Assault Claim Ended Yale QB’s Rhodes Bid

Patrick Witt's agent issued a statement to the Courant about the Times report.

Patrick Witt Yale

Yale quarterback Patrick Witt gained national headlines in November when he was faced with the decision of taking part in "The Game" against Harvard or attending a Rhodes Scholarship interview.

Now, the New York Times reports that the decision was made for him.

The Rhodes Trust suspended Witt's application after learning that a fellow student had accused him of sexual assault, according to the report.

However, his accuser did not go to the police and has not filed a formal complaint, the Times reports.

Witt's agent released a statement to the Hartford Courant, disputing parts of the report.

It says, in part:

"To be clear, Patrick’s Rhodes candidacy was never “suspended”, as the article suggests, and his official record at Yale contains no disciplinary issues."

The full statement is posted on the Courant's Web site.
