Casino officials will speak with NBC Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon but have not confirmed the layoffs.
Montville Mayor Joseph Jaskiewicz told the Norwich Bulletin that he was briefed on Monday.
“I got word yesterday that they may be doing it,” the mayor told the Norwich Bulletin on Tuesday. “It’s killing them (the tribe) to do it. It shows you how bad the economic times are.”
Casino president Mitchell Etess told the Courant that revenues continue to be flat and that some of the laid off employees might be eligible for different jobs at the casino.
The Bulletin reports that these would be the first layoffs in Mohegan Sun’s history.
