A 52-year-old Waterbury man is dead after his car hit the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 691 on Monday morning and became wedged underneath it, according to police.
State police said the tractor-trailer slowed for traffic in the left lane on I-691 eastbound near exit 4 in Meriden when Hector Ramos, 52, of Waterbury, rear-ended it in his Ford Explorer around 7:45 a.m. Monday.
Police said the Explorer slid underneath the tractor-trailer, trapping Ramos inside. The highway was temporarily shut down and a LifeStar medical helicopter was called to the scene, but Ramos could not be saved.
The tractor-trailer driver did not appear to be injured, according to state police. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
State police are investigating the crash.
