Yale Student's Family Settles Lawsuit Against Fraternity

The family of one of four Yale University students killed in a 2003 highway crash has settled a negligence lawsuit against a fraternity.

Court documents say the lawsuit by the family of Nicholas Grass of Holyoke, Mass., was settled under undisclosed terms Sept. 5.

The students were returning from a Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity event in New York City when their SUV slammed into a tractor-trailer that had crashed on Interstate 95 in Fairfield. Two Yale baseball team players, including Grass, were among the four killed.

The lawsuit claimed fraternity leaders failed to provide safe transportation home from the event. Grass' family also said the driver, who was a Yale student and fraternity member, was sleep-deprived during the fraternity's so-called Hell Week, when pledges are allegedly hazed.
