A Midwest man who brought his coworkers bagels sliced like bread, then bragged about it on Twitter, is getting an earful from New Yorkers -- including the NYPD.

Alex Krautmann tweeted a photo of his Panera purchase Monday and called the vertical slices "the St. Louis secret." He said he introduced his colleagues to it and "It was a hit!," pointing out the slices create more surface area for cream cheese. He wrote the few remaining slices make nice bagel chips with hummus.

    New Yorkers were not amused.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea thanked Twitter uses for reporting "this crime," adding "we only serve New York City, where this would NEVER happen."

NYPD Assistant Chief Kenneth Corey, commanding officer in Staten Island, replied to Shea, asking, "Which is the greater offense? Bagels from Panera (seriously???) or the riduclous way they are sliced?"

Well, you know how New Yorkers are about their bagels.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer dug in as well, tweeting, "St Louis, fuhgeddaboudit."

Panera also weighed in on the fray, telling Krautmann the bagels "are on us" next time and they'll be sliced however he'd like.
