Dodd Camp Still Holding on to Hope

Releasing an internal poll, campaign sees glimmer of hope.

It's sure to be a tough re-election fight for Senator Chris Dodd, but his campaign has released an internal poll that gives the team a glimmer of hope.

According to the New Haven Register, the survey of 601 likely Connecticut voters conducted last week, looked at the race between Dodd and his potential Republican opponents, Linda McMahon and Rob Simmons.

It found Dodd and the former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO are in a dead heat with 46 percent each, while the senator trails the former Congressman by a 46 to 51 percent margin.

But according to the poll report, once voters learned additional information about all three candidates, Dodd leads McMahon by 5 points, and is in a virtual dead heat with Simmons.

“Connecticut voters are supportive of the president and the Democratic Party, and with a strong and aggressive campaign, Chris Dodd can win next November,” the report says.

Raj Shah, communications director for the Simmons campaign, found it strange that the Dodd campaign released the information.

“It’s not often that a candidate touts internal polling that shows him losing, but such is the state of affairs for Sen. Dodd. What is clear is that even Sen. Dodd’s pollster acknowledges that Rob Simmons is his biggest threat,” Shah told the Register.
