Rob Simmons Back in Senate Race?

It appears Rob Simmons may not be completely out of the race for Senate in Connecticut.

Despite the fact he suspended his campaign two months ago, Simmons Wednesday said he will begin running a TV ad reminding voters he is still on the ballot for the August 10 primary. "I also feel it is important for people to know that I am still on the ballot and to provide my fellow Republicans with a choice," Simmons said on his website.

GOP endorsed candidate Linda McMahon and Peter Schiff are also on the ballot for the primary to decide the Republican nominee to take on Democrat Richard Blumenthal in November.

In a statement released to the Hartford Courant, McMahon press spokesman Ed Patru reacted to Simmons' announcement. "For eight months, Rob Simmons promised Connecticut Republicans that he would not primary if he lost the convention. He lost the convention, then immediately announced he would primary. Hours later, he dismissed his staff and announced he wouldn't primary. Over the past two months, he's been engaged in a very strange and erratic effort to reconcile his promise not to run with his desire to return to Washington. Today we are as confused as everyone else," Patru said.
