Kia Nurse

She may be a UConn Husky, but Kia Nurse will play for her home country of Canada in the Rio Olympics.

Nurse has been playing basketball since she was 4 years old. She made her debut for Team Canada at the U-16 FIBA Americans Championship in 2011. In 2013 she played her first year with the senior national team and helped Canada finish second and qualify for the 2014 FIBA World Championship.

Nurse joined the UConn Huskies in 2014 and proved an integral part of the team. She earned AAC Freshman of the Year honors in 2015. In the 2015-2016 season she was the only member to start every game. So far, the rising junior has helped UConn take home two NCAA championships.

In 2015 Nurse represented Canada at the Pan American Games in Toronto and the FIBA Americas Championship, taking home gold and helping Team Canada secure a spot for the Rio Olympics. This will be her first Olympic games.
