Our orgy of postseason previews, prognostication has arrived

"Hey Stanley Cup, how's it goin'? I like your bowl, it looks really shiny. So you're a trophy, right? What's that all about? ... OK, well it was great to meet'chu. Say hi to your mother for me. And, uh, to Tim Robbins for her."

Happy 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs Eve to you and yours. Just wanted to give a head-up on where our coverage is going over the next few days:

• The Puck Daddy series previews, those elephantine essays of snark and sound, will run for the next three days, well before faceoff for each series. Our first one publishes after this post, in fact. Check back often.

As you saw this morning, we're also running a series of "Exotic Wagers" on the playoffs, in which we attempt to figure out the winners and losers through untraditional means. But we promise that none of this will lead to playoff picks from a monkey or a dog.

• We'll be live-blogging the last great hope to save the New York Islanders the NHL Draft Lottery this evening beginning at 8 p.m. EST. Even if your team's future doesn't depend on a bunch of balls in a popcorn air-popper, stop by and send a virtual beer over to the desperate losers watching this thing with the intensity of "The Sopranos" finale."

• The official Puck Daddy staff picks will be revealed Wednesday morning. Rubbing them in our stupid faces should happen somewhere around next weekend.

From the Dept. of Self-Congratulatory Nonsense: I'll be joining a couple of other honored bloggers tonight for a segment on CBC's "Hockey Night in Canada" preview show, which is a little mind-blowing. Also, you can follow my ramblings about the playoffs on Twitter, whatever the hell that is.

• Finally, make sure you stop by the Y! Sports official Stanley Cup playoffs page for picks, schedules and analysis ... as well as the stunning news that not only have the Phoenix Coyotes made the Eastern Conference playoffs, but they've apparently also eliminated the Flyers. (Thanks to readers Ed and Jim for needling us on the goof.)
