Past Tornadoes in Connecticut

There have been almost 100 tornadoes since 1950,

As hurricane season begins on Wednesday, Connecticut is bracing as parts of the state are under tornado watch.

Since 1950, 93 tornadoes have been reported in the state and several powerful storms have happened within the last couple years.

On July 21, 2010, Bristol. Terryville, Thomaston and East Litchfield were struck by tornado.

On June 24, 2010, Bridgeport was hit by a powerful and destructive tornado that brought down buildings.

"East Main Street just looks like Godzilla came and grabbed roofs and wires and cars and mixed them all together," Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch said after surveying the damage.

On June 26, 2009, a powerful tornado destroyed homes in Wethersfield. The National Weather Service confirmed that it was an EF-1 tornado.

In the summer of 2001, three tornadoes hit Litchfield County in 10 days, according to NOAA’s records.

1989: July 10, 1989: Waterbury and Hamden were struck by a tornado and one person was killed.

1979: Windsor and Windsor Locks were struck by storms on Oct. 3, 1979. The storms caused millions of dollars of damage.
