UConn Women's Victory Parade

In what seems to have become an annual event, the 2010 champion UConn Huskies Women's basketball team celebrated another perfect season with a victory parade through downtown Hartford on Sunday.

"We loved it some much last year, I said 'guys, we got to come back and do it again,'" said Maya Moore, star forward for the Huskies, during a rally at the state capital.

It wasn't deja vu but it did feel awfully similar. The UConn Women and their fans celebrated another undefeated season, with their record standing at 78-0. The streets along the parade route were packed.

"It starts with Geno (Auriemma), because the women come and go and they keep winning," said Michael Curry of Hartford, one of 25,000 people who came out to show their adoration.

"That's not the goal of the team to be perfect cause that's impossible," said Auriemma. "There's no such thing as being perfect. What is perfect is the absolute pursuit of a perfect effort."

Whether, the team will be celebrating another championship title next year is not a given. What is a sure thing, this is the last parade for Gov. M. Jodi Rell.

Since coming to Hartford, Rell has been a part of all seven of the team's championships, as lieutenant governor and then governor.

"Sometimes when you think it can't get any better than this," said Rell. "It always gets a little bit better and this year is ever more special."

Rell ended her speech by thanking Coach Auriemma. She said he had promised her one last championship before she left office and he delivered.
