Route 183 Reopens in Torrington After Fatal Crash

Route 183 was closed for hours in Torrington following a fatal one-car crash.

Route 183 was closed for several hours between Hayden Hill Road and Cedar Lane in Torrington following a fatal crash, according to police.

Police said the one-car crash was reported around 3:30 a.m. and that one person has died.

The victim, 22-year-old Frederick Lagassie, veered off the road. His car hit a fire hydrant and several trees before he was ejected from his vehicle.

The cause of the crash is unclear.

The road remained closed for hours Sunday morning and reopened around 9:30 a.m., according to police.

The accident is under investigation by the Torrington Police Department.
