Two New London Cops Canned

Two separate and unrelated investigations have led to the firing of two police officers.

Chief Margaret Ackley fired Razulallah Wallace and Jeffrey Nichols.  Both are two-year veterans of the force.

According to a press release from the department, Wallace was terminated for conduct unbecoming a police officer, consorting knowingly with criminals, violation of truthfulness policy, violation of observance of law policy, violation of his oath of office and violation of the public trust.

Nichols was also fired for conduct unbecoming an officer, as well as divulging information, violation of his oath of office and violation of the public trust.

"These two officers have violated the public’s trust and I have lost confidence in their ability to properly exercise their duties as police officers," said Chief Margaret Ackley.

Police said no other details will be released because these are considered ongoing personnel issues.

Some in New London are glad to hear the Chief took action.

"It’s important to the community to know that we have upstanding citizens as our officers," said Lynette Singleton of New London.

They also say the termination of these two officers will not affect how they look at other officers in the Department.  That's something Chief Ackley wanted to get across.  There are 90 other officers who work hard every day.

"I know some of them like on a one-to-one basis, so I know there’s some integrity there. There are people who are honest. You can’t hold two people accountable for the whole force," said Singleton.
