Two Injured After Shooting in Hartford Nightclub Parking Lot

An altercation at a Hartford nightclub spilled out into the parking lot and escalated into a shooting that critically injured a 33-year-old man and wounded a 21-year-old woman early Sunday morning, according to preliminary reports, police said.

Hours after police responded to a shooting that seriously injured a man at 2006 Main Street, there was another report of a person shot when gunfire erupted outside Club Vibz at 3155 Main Street in Hartford.

When Hartford patrol and shooting task force officers got to the scene, they found a woman with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to her right breast in the parking lot. Police identified her as Niyah Young, 21, of Hartford.

A 33-year-old Hartford man, Jason Dakers, arrived at St. Francis Hospital in a private vehicle to be treated for multiple gun shot wounds to his torso and limbs. He was rushed into emergency surgery and is listed in critical but stable condition.

Preliminary reports on the incident revealed that an unidentified person wielding a handgun opened fire at Dakers and accidentally hit Young after an altercation that started in the club and continued in the parking lot, police said.

Police have not identified any suspects at this time.

Hartford detectives are investigating the shooting, police said.

The two separate incidents of violence came after another shooting early Saturday morning that killed a 34-year-old Hartford man named Jonathan Whaley.
